Original review written in 2014:
I had no clue what I was in for with this book. Seriously. I was simply perusing Goodreads one evening to see what other people were reading…what was out there that I haven’t read yet. I saw a post of this book and didn’t even read the review. The orange simplistic cover caught my eye and I loved the title, so I downloaded a sample to my kindle and couldn’t stop reading.
I was up until 3am at one point because I couldn’t stop. To say I loved this book is a serious understatement. I went in with ZERO expectations and fell in love with absolutely everything about it. The characters are real, and relatable, and I felt connected to each and every one of them.
Kate Sedgwick is an amazing character. I loved everything about her and you will too. She is this tiny whirlwind of awesomeness that leaves a mark on everything she touches everywhere she goes. The friends she has and the friends she makes are all characters that are unforgettable. Gus, Keller, Clayton, Pete, Duncan, Shelly…all of these characters are so brilliantly written and the impact that Kate has on each of them…it’s just awesome.
Now, all that being said…this book did rip my heart out. I cried…yep, me…the girl who doesn’t cry over books, movies, commercials…the tears came. I tried to hold them back, but it was impossible. This book will bring tears…its inevitable. Even more reason to read this book…if I connected on such a level that it brought tears to my eyes…I think that says a ton about this author and her amazing talent. She sucked me in and I lived in Bright Side’s world with her and her friends for a few days and it was EPIC. Everyone should DO EPIC!
I want to be more like Kate, and you should too because I think the world needs people like her.
